In conversation with Yanto & Sharifah founder & desinger of Daily Bags.

Tell us a little about your background?

I am Yanto Drogt founder/designer of Blue Days Footwear: I’ve worked a few years ago at a shoe distributor as an account manager for different brands.

Iam Sharifah Isa founder/designer of Daily Bags: I’ve worked at several companies in my leisure time I work a lot with sewing machines, making various things.

What made you start your own label?

Yanto: I've always been fascinated about denim so I decided to combine this with my shoe experience (the first denim footwear label in the world was born)

Sharifah: Yanto is my husband he took me in the world of denim and I started to make patchwork denim bags and of leftover jeans for Blue Days.

Were does the name come from?

Yanto: When I think of the color blue, I think denim. Every day you have to wear denim

Sharifah: A daily bag is an essential item which is matched with your out-fit of the day.

What inspires you when making a piece?

Yanto: The familiar old styles of shoes, such as the Brogue to see in an innovative style of shoe.

Sharifah: The different kinds of denim fabrics, especially the old ones with a lot of shades of blue.

How do you choose your fabrics & materials for your pieces?

Yanto: First of all I look for quality. From the beginning I work with a Italian denim manufacturer based in Portugal which have a good quality of selvedge fabrics. Every component of the shoe is from a different manufacturer in Portugal.

Sharifah: I am looking for the most beautiful usable pieces of denim and other kind of textiles, such as leather and also colored fabrics for lining.

You produce in Rotterdam why?

Yanto: I design in Rotterdam and crafting in Portugal.

Sharifah: Because I live here and Rotterdam is my home-town.

How or why is Daily bags differ from others?

Sharifah: Every bag has been made of a different jeans so every piece of the jeans can be used for one bag only. So a bag of Daily Bags is Unique!

Do you have any other favorite fashion labels ?

Yanto: Novesta footwear, Grenson and Momotaro Japan.

Sharifah: Fundamental denim a Japan based independent denim maker.

Daily bags designing Bag and shoes? Why shoes?

Daily Bags is independent of the shoes.

what have you learned along the way?

Yanto: I have learned to be close to yourself and have to remain my passion for shoes and denim.

Sharifah: I have learned that patchwork of denim is just like art of life. People don’t wants to be unique.

Where do you see the company in 3 years?

Hopefully together in the international fashion industry.
